Title & Author: The Elite by Kiera Cass
Genre: YA- Romance, Fantasy, Fiction, Dystopia
Release Date: April 23rd 2013
Series: The Selection Series
Description: The Selection began with thirty-five girls. Now with the group narrowed down to the six Elite, the competition to win Prince Maxon’s heart is fiercer than ever—and America is still struggling to decide where her heart truly lies. Is it with Maxon, who could make her life a fairy tale? Or with her first love, Aspen? America is desperate for more time. But the rest of the Elite know exactly what they want—and America’s chance to choose is about to slip away.
The Elite definitely fell victim to the age old second book blunder. You know, the type of books that are vital to the storyline and to build up the plot but slow in terms of action and interest. That is to say, this book is a key piece in the series so don’t skip it or hold off reading it but don’t expect a lot of gasps and plot twists as the first book. Some key points in the story are exciting or satisfying but mostly this seems to be a build of the elusive “Love Triangle of Doom” that many YA books fall victim too. I get that Aspen’s role is important in America being able to make a choice but it feels very repetitive by the end of this book.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK?
Yes. I will forewarn you though, the second book is slower then the rest. POWER THROUGH IT because The One is so worth it!
